US-sponsored ceasefire negotiations aim to resolve the ongoing conflict in Sudan, despite the absence of the Sudanese government from the talks. The conflict, which has been ongoing since April 2023, has been violent between the Sudanese army, de facto ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces semi-led by his former military deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
The talks, organized by Tom Perriello, the US special envoy to Sudan, are taking place at a secret location in an undisclosed location in Switzerland. Tom Perriello expressed the urgency of the Sun fight, saying it was "time to silence the machines". It is expected to last as long as 10 days to facilitate the resolution of the devastating conflict that has plagued the country since last year.
Despite the participation of the Rapid Support delegation in the United States, the Sudanese Armed Forces are attending, expressing their dissatisfaction with the formula determined by the United States.
