While negotiations and international efforts are still continuing to reach a solution in Sudan that ends the war that broke out a year and a half ago between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, at least 80 people were killed in a village in the southeast of the country.

A medical source and eyewitnesses reported on Friday that the hospital in the village of Jalgini in the Sudanese state of Sennar “received 55 dead and dozens of wounded today, 25 of whom died, bringing the death toll to 80.”

Rapid Support Commander: There is no legitimate government in Sudan

One of the survivors said that the Rapid Support Forces attacked the village yesterday morning, Thursday, according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.

Since last Saturday

Local sources had explained to Al Arabiya/Al-Hadath earlier today that the Rapid Support Forces, led by Muhammad Hamdan Daglo, had launched attacks on the densely populated area since last Saturday with firearms and mortars, leaving dozens of residents dead.

The sources also indicated that all services in the aforementioned village are out of service, confirming that the Rapid Support Forces are still deployed throughout the place.

This attack came after talks began in Geneva on Wednesday aimed at stopping the fighting in the country, although the absence of the army greatly weakened the chances of reaching a solution.

It is noteworthy that the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city of Sinja, the capital of Sennar, in late June, after the battles in the state led to the displacement of about 726 thousand people, according to the International Organization for Migration.

Sennar connects central and southeastern Sudan, which is under the control of the army, while the Rapid Support Forces control most of Khartoum, Al-Jazira State (central), and the Darfur region (west), in addition to large areas of Kordofan (south).

Over the past months, Saudi Arabia and the United States have tried to bring the two teams together in negotiations in order to reach a ceasefire and discuss ways of a political solution, without reaching a result.

While the country is still mired since April 2023 in a fierce war between the army led by Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, which led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands, as well as the spread of diseases and famine in some areas.
